Last Saturday, twenty people gathered for a Quiet Day on the theme of Darker Days lead us to Lighter Hope. We started by reflecting on creation's invitation to retreat and be restored, to become dormant over the colder months.
To let our roots be fed, as we offer our praise and thanksgiving, for all God has led us in over this past year.
After a time of silence, we then went on to reflect, on how at times in our spiritual lives we can feel distant from God, we looked at the writing of St. John of the Cross and his interpretation of what it is to experience and move through 'a dark night of the soul'
In our last led session together, we acknowledged how Jesus is our hope and how despite difficulties that we may encounter in our lives, that we can be confident that our faith in Jesus will sustain us and ultimately bring us to an everlasting, light of hope.
Colossians 2:6-7 - reveals what might be required as we retreat into winter.

‘So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Q: What needs to rest and lie dormant in you as you enter winter?
Q: What are you most grateful for?
Prayer - Father, we pray that winter would be a time of purposeful rest, as we hide ourselves in you. Help us to contemplate all the ways in which your goodness and love have touched our lives this year. We ask that as winter approaches, you would teach us how to retreat further into you. And as the days grow shorter, and the nights grow longer, may we not be fearful as darkness descend, rather we pray, that as we are dormant, you might be at work in us, and we would be open to all you are stirring within us……Amen.
Here's one comment from the day:
'As always, immaculate preparation and insightful reflections, lots of food for thought in these darker days, plus quality handouts'
